In September 1966 Chevrolet released an iconic muscle car, the 67 Camaro. The base model was available in coupe or convertible and powered by a Inline 6 or V8 engine. Chevy debuted this car with the available RS, SS, and Z/28 Packages. The Rally Sport package, was an appearance package that could be equipped with any engine and transmission combination. It included "hideaway" headlights, wide lower side chrome trim moldings, RS emblems, and unique tail lights. Rally Sport sales accounted for about 64,842 cars.
The 67 Camaro SS, or Super Sport, was the most powerful model with the availability of a small block 295 HP 350 V8, or the 396 big block with 325 or 375 Horsepower. It included SS emblems, a unique bumble bee stripe running across the nose of the car, and non-functioning air intake finned scoops on the hood. The SS model sold about 34,411 units in 1967.
The rarest option is the Z/28, of which only 602 were built. The Z28 also came with upgraded suspension, front disc power brakes, and a 4-speed Muncie close-ratio manual transmission. Posi-traction was available as an option. The Z/28 included wide racing stripes on the hood and trunk deck lid (that could be deleted at no charge). One cool factor of the RPO code Z/28 is that for its inaugural year, there was no external emblems or indicators you were one of the 602 privileged drivers.
